Dear IFSW members
We want to express our greatest thanks to those members that have
found time to write reports on the social work response to the Covid-19 crisis.
We have received many emails and messages thanking IFSW for sharing this
information which has been used as a guide for other countries develop their
responses. The thanks, however, belong to the report writers!

We have also been receiving many calls and messages on the
ethical dilemmas that members are experiencing as they face this challenge
without adequate resources. There are some examples in this report. Most often we have been able to assist the
concerned member by spending time discussing how to develop a local framework
to address these ethical challenges. We however now consider that a process
needs to be established where members can discuss their ethical challenges with
colleagues who can offer some continuity of support throughout the duration of
The members of IFSW Ethics Commission have volunteered
for this role!
IFSW Ethics Commission comprises Dawn Hobdy as Global
Commissioner and Regional Commissioners: Olu Jacob (Africa) Teoh Ai Hua
and Hassan Mousavi Chelak (Asia-Pacific) Jane
Shears (Europe) and Kenia Batista (Latin America and the Caribbean). They all
have significant experience with social work ethics and you can find their
email addresses and profiles here. They are happy to provide support to any IFSW members who are
facing ethical dilemmas in the fight against the Covid-19 crisis.
‘Support’ means assisting the IFSW member to find local
solutions and establish local frameworks to resolve the dilemma. Please note
that: The IFSW Ethics Commission is not offering to decide on any ethical
matters, but will work with you to explore issues raised, how they might
impact on professional practice and what the options are to focus on solutions.

Dawn at any stage.
Also, please keep sending us your reports on the social work
response to the Covid-19 crisis and it will be placed on the website for others
to reflect and learn from. All contributions are welcome.
